I was born in Grantham, England, in 1958. From a very early age I knew I was an artist. On leaving school I went to Chester College of Art, studying fine art, fine art printmaking and graphic design. I moved to London when I was 19, and have been developing my art ever since. Up until 2 years ago when I discovered Xara X, I had been using traditional media, but now my output is mainly digital.

I have exhibited my paintings, drawings and prints in London and Brussels. I am also a fretless bass player having played on various records and done several tours. To see more of my work please visit modernarts.

Simon Beck Xara Xone Featured Artist

Simon Beck

Simon Beck was born in London in 1961 and spent his early life in Switzerland and the United States. He returned to England in the late 1970s and eventually settled in Southeast London. He is married and has two small children. He has been involved in computer graphics since 1991, and is now a Website and computer graphics designer. In his spare time he plays blues piano and bass guitar, cooks, and designs computer-based images using Xara X.

"I see my drawings as a kind of lighthearted minimalism; maybe like a cross between a koan and a one-liner, or perhaps a cross between a haiku and a limerick. Sorry if it sounds pretentious, but that's it. Visual puns. But not very funny."

"My style of artwork is … based on an early interest in screen printing and paper cutouts."

Visit my website, alphabeck.co.uk and my online portfolio, simonbeck.artistportfolio.net. Large-format canvas prints of my work (48" x 36") are available from Image & Nature: http://www.imageandnature.com/.

I have been a farmer most of my life. At the young age of 57, I couldn't afford to stay in the farming business. I've been a professional photographer for 15+ years and an artist most of my life.

In 1999 I purchased my first computer. I started working with my photos and my art. Being self-taught, I began using different programs to enhance my photography and art work for web pages, brochures and posters. Discovering the Xara X program was a real find, now I've taken my art to a higher level using the computer.

I am currently in my last year of a Computer Science degree at Portsmouth University and also working at a large company as a software developer.

Digital art is for the most part something I do in my spare time, although I have been known to do illustration work for people. My two favourite graphics packages are Xara for vector images, and Painter for pixel based work. All my work is posted to my gallery on DeviantArt: psymann
