Xara X1 offers a large number of different transparency types, including Flat, Linear, Diamond, and Fractal amongst others. But there is a way to create custom transparency types of your own design using the bitmap transparency feature. This tutorial will guide you through the making of one such example.

The custom transparency is made by creating the desired pattern (mask) using black, gray and white shapes; white represents fully transparent, black represents fully opaque. From this transparency mask, simply create a bitmap copy and select that bitmap mask as a transparency.
