7. Xara's powerful design lets you create blends with bitmaps, thus, creating some very cool effects. For example, a bitmap envelope which is not included in Xara. Select your image and clone it (either Ctrl k or Clone from the Edit menu). To create a zoom effect on the tulips, we'll create an outline of it using either the Freehand and Brush Tool, or the Pen or the Shape Editor Tool. This does have to be real accurate. Just get the general shape as shown below in black is fine for what we need. Select the black shape and the cloned image of the flowers using Shift click to multiple select the two objects, and from the Arrange menu, select Combine Shapes... Intersect Shapes (or Ctrl 3). This eliminates all but the section of the photo under the black mask. Although it appears as if nothing changed, the intersected traced flower shape is now directly above the original bitmap. I've applied a red outline to indicate the intersected shape. Apply a 50-step blend from the background image to the intersected shape. Now Ctrl click on the intersected flower image to select it, and move it around... see what happens. The photo takes on a distorted quality. Resizing, rotating and distorting the intersected image will effect the entire photo as you can see in the example below. These are just a few things you can achieve with Xara Blend Tool. I hope this tutorial has been helpful and has provided inspiration to make you imagine other things that can be done with this powerful tool.
