Make sure that the starting portion of the new lines overlap the wider lines. Select all the lines and from the Arrange menu, select Convert Line to Shape . (This makes each of the lines a shape with an outline). With all the converted lines selected, Arrange > Combine Shapes... Add Shapes. (This creates one continuous outline and shape. I have added a black outline around the red shape to show that it is in fact one single outline). When you convert a line to shape, Xara adds a large amount of control points. With the shape selected, select the Shape Editor Tool and drag a selection rectangle (a marquee selection) around the entire shape. You will see thousands of control points as shown above on the left. When you select the shape, the Smoothing slider is activated in the lower center portion of the Infobar. Move the Smoothing slider to around 20%. This eliminates many of the unnecessary control points while maintaining the shape as shown above right.
