For this next operation, you will need a copy of Sean Sedwards' SS Mould plug-in filter which you can download HERE. After you unzip the filter copy it to Xara's Plugins folder. With Xara open, right click on the page and select Page Options... in the Plug-ins tabbed section, press New... Browse to the Plugins folder, select the folder and press Add. (The path will be something like C:\Program Files\Xara\Xara X\Plugins). Select the purple bitmap. Right click on an empty portion of the page and select Bitmap Effects & Plug-ins > Bitmap Effects. You should see at least one plug-in filter in the Bitmap Effects flyout menu, Mould. Highlight Mould and from the flyout menu, select Spherical Mould. The Spherical Mould dialog will open (shown above in a shortened version). Move the Mapping slider to 170 and the Distortion slider to 85 and press OK to apply the spherical mould (as you can see under the dialog). NOTE: I have found that a ratio of 1:1/2 works best. So make the distortion setting 1/2 the mapping setting. Applying the filter to a high resolution bitmap of around 300dpi creates a smoother effect. Create a 300 pixel circle with no outline and center it over the spherical bitmap. Select both circle and bitmap and Arrange, Combine Shapes... Intersect Shapes . This masks the bitmap inside the circle.
Create a 350 pixel square. Select the Freehand and Brush Tool. Set the Freehand Smoothing setting to 10. (Lower settings have less smoothing). From the center of the square, draw 5 or 6 very jagged lines. Draw each line from the center outwards as shown.
