Click the Edit Brush button on the Infobar. In the Spacing tabbed section, set the slider setting to about 150%. In the Scaling tabbed section, set the Random slider to around 75-132% In the Rotation tabbed section set the Random slider to about 0-30 degrees. In the cases where you have used the Random option, press the Randomize button a few times. What we want to achieve here is a wide variety of rotations and sizes so keep pressing the Randomize button to achieve this. These will become pine needles. NOTE: These settings do not have to be exact, just close.
Select the Shape Editor Tool (F4). Create a vertical line that is approximately 340 pixels tall (remember you can see the length of the line on the Infobar as you drag the line. In the Line Gallery (F12) set the Width to 8pt and apply a Convex Stroke Shape. Set the Line Cap to Round Cap and press Apply. With the line and the Shape Editor Tool still selected, drag on the the line about 1/5 of the way from the top slightly to the right. Drag the line on the bottom slightly to the left as shown. With the line selected. from the Arrange menu, select Convert Line to Shape.
Select the line of pine needles and press Ctrl d to make a duplicate set. Press the Flip Horizontally icon on the Infobar. You should now have two sets of pine needles as shown above.
