With the U-shaped path and the Shape Editor Tool (F4) selected, drag the sides of the U-shape into curves as shown. Make sure the ends of the path still overlap ends of the curves on the larger shape.
Hold down the Shift key (to select multiple objects) and click on the U-shaped path and the larger flower shape. From the Arrange menu, select Combine Shapes > Slice Shapes or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl 4. The U-shaped path disappears and the flower shape is now two shapes. Apply a color to the new shape to help you distinguish it from the other shapes we are about to create.
Add three more paths as shown in blue dashed line above using the Shape Editor Tool. Edit each line segment as you create it to curve like the example above. Press the Esc key after you create each path is complete to start a new path. The paths should slightly overlap the new shape and should pass through the area where the curves meet on the larger flower shape.
Select one of the new paths and the larger shape and Arrange > Combine Shapes > Slice Shapes or press Ctrl 4. Repeat this last step to slice the remaining shape into smaller sections as shown. Color each section for easier identification. The colors are not important as we will be changing them later.
