Add a rectangle behind the text. Select the Fill Tool and from the drop down list of Fill Types on the Infobar, select Linear. and add a Linear fill using the colors shown above. Drag the fill path arrow in the direction shown above.
Make a duplicate of the text, bitmap image and rectangle and set it to one side.
Select the text, rectangle and photo and Arrange > Create Bitmap Copy.... Select the True Color option. Hold down the Shift key and press Create to place the bitmap copy directly on top of the vector objects.
Right click on the bitmap and from the pop up menu select Xara Picture Editor (Xara X1 and later only). Press Ctrl e to open the Enhance dialog. Decrease the Contrast to -10 and decrease the Sharpness/Blur slider to -50 to blur the image. (Negative amounts blur the image while positive amounts increase the sharpness). Press the red check mark icon at the bottom of the screen to accept the changes and close the dialog.
Select the bitmap with the Transparency Tool. Click about the top of the 3rd paragraph and drag in a diagonal direction to the space between the 2nd to the last paragraph as shown above to apply an interactive Linear transparency. This give the text the appearance of a very narrow photographic depth of field.
Select the bitmap, right click, and select Create Bitmap Copy... Again use the True Color color depth option.
