A Glass of Beer at the Café Xara

James McCluer (JamesMC from the TalkGraphics Conferences) posted a challenge in the Xara Gallery Conference a few months ago to create a vector illustration of a transparent glass of beer. After 10 years doing monthly tutorials, I am always looking for something to do next, so the challenge came at a good time. This is not an easy tutorial, 36 steps with many steps within each step. And I do not recommend this tutorial for new users. But you are welcome to prove me wrong. But it should be a challenge.

I used about a dozen beer photos that I downloaded from a Google search for reference and for inspiration but in the end, the illustration is totally mine. This is an important point because it is never a good idea to copy someone's work (unless it is from a tutorial, and in this case you should never claim credit to the image unless you tell your viewers the image was created from a tutorial), to the point where the creator of the image can recognize the similarity. Because this is known as copyright infringement.
