Clone the new shape you created in the last step and the top shape (Ctrl k). Use the Shape Editor Tool to Break at Points and keep just the two bottom sections. Delete the top portions (shown above in blue dashed outlines). Increase the outline Width to 8pt by selecting 8pt from the Width drop down list on the Infobar. Select both lines then switch to the Freehand and Brush Tool (F3) From the Select an Existing Brush drop down list, select Splodge. With both lines selected, from the Arrange menu, select Convert Line to Shape.
Place each of the converted lines behind the appropriate shapes shown above (Ctrl b to Put to Back). Select the first shape and converted line and Arrange > Combine Shapes > Add Shapes (Ctrl 1). Select the second line and shape and Add Shapes.
The shapes should be arranged as shown above. (Remember Shift Ctrl f and Shift Ctrl b to move an object forward or backward one object per click. Select the top ellipse. I believe we converted it to editable shapes but just to be on the safe side Arrange > Convert to Editable Shapes. Switch to the Shape Editor Tool (F4). Select the top center control handle and using the up arrow key on your keyboard, move the top up about 20 pixels. Click on the far left control handle and drag the Bezier control handle up a small amount. Repeat for the far right control handle. Save your work and take a short break.
