Beer Glass - Xara Xtreme tutorial - ©2006 Gary W. Priester

Select the Freehand and Brush Tool (F3). Set the Smoothness slider on the Infobar to 20%.

IMPORTANT: From the Select an Existing Brush drop down list, select the first option, which is no Brush, and set your line Width back to what you normally use.

1) Draw a shape like the one shown above and extend the top over into the gray shape. This will be a bit of foam spilling down the side of the glass.

2) Duplicate the shape (Ctrl d) and then clone the duplicate (Ctrl k). Move the cloned shape up about 12 pixels.

3) Select both shapes and Arrange > Combine Shapes > Subtract Shapes or press Ctrl 2.

4) Position the remaining portion over the original shape as shown above.

All of the pieces are now drawn. Now the fun begins. Coloring!

This is a very complex fill because it does the beer and the glass fill all in one action.

Select the bottom shape with the Fill Tool (F5). From the Fill Type drop down menu, select Elliptical.

This next step is important so read this before you start. Move the center of the fill up so that it is near the top of the shape. Hold down the Ctrl key. Drag the right fill path control handle and rotate it so the fill path arrow is facing straight up and the other fill path arrow is pointing to the left. Only one fill path arrow can have multiple colors and so we want that fill path arrow pointing upwards.

This will require some tweaking on your part to get this right. Zoom in close to the top of the fill path arrow. Double click on the top of the fill path arrow and add 5 colors (one color with each double click). Place the colors very close together. Add a 6th color in the center of the fill path arrow.

Using the Color Editor (Ctrl e) edit the RGB values for each color. When you have edited all the colors you may need to change the position of the fill and some of the colors until your fill looks like mine above.

TIP: You can move the colors up and down by very small amounts. Hold down the Alt key and press the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard.

Create an ellipse 128 x 48 pixels. Clone the ellipse and move it up 6 pixels. (I set my Nudge Size distance (Utilities > Options > General) to 1pix so every time I press an arrow key the selected object moves 1 pixel).

Select both ellipses and Arrange > Combine Shapes > Subtract Shapes (Ctrl 2).

Apply a solid RGB fill and use the color shown.

Center this shape over the bottom of the glass shape. Select the shape with the Transparency Tool (F6). From the drop down list of Transparency Shapes on the Infobar, select Circular.

Drag the center of the circular transparency to the bottom center of the shape. Drag the outside fill path arrow a short distance to the right.
