Slicing Tutorial

Using the Rectangle Tool, and with Snap To Guides selected (Window > Snap to Guides or right click on the page and select Snap to Guides), draw a 46 pixel square in the first of the row of squares. The square should snap to the guides and should be 46 x 46 pixels.

Using the Ellipse Tool, and holding down the Ctrl key, create a 30 pixel diameter circle. Center the circle inside the square using the Object Alignment menu. Make five duplicate circles and squares and position them as shown above. When you are finished, delete the squares.

TIP: Since the five duplicates are to be spaced every 46 pixels, you can do this accurately by modifying the X Duplication distance. Open the Page Options dialog (right click on the page and select Page Options... General tabbed section). In the X Duplication Distance text entry box enter 46 and press Apply to apply the settings without closing the dialog. Select the circle and square and press Ctrl d (duplicate) five times. Reset the X distance to your original setting and press OK to close the dialog.

Using the Rectangle Tool, Create a 170 x 46 pixel rectangle. With the rectangle and the Rectangle Tool still selected, press the Curved Corners icon on the Infobar. Select Curvature from the drop down list and increase the setting to 0.7.

Create a second rectangle 189 by 46 pixels and snap it to the guides. Center the rounded rectangle inside the snapped rectangle. Delete the larger (snapped) rectangle when you are finished.

Name and save your drawing and take a short eye break.
