Make a duplicate of the white cubes. Convert to editable shapes (Arrange menu). Change the outline to black and the transparency to Brightness. Move the images farther apart as shown and use the Object Alignment ( Arrange > Alignment...) dialog to Align Top and Distribute Equi-spaced.
Adjust the Brightness transparency slider setting to 20%. The new cubes with the black outlines should now look like they are behind the large cube. The reason for this (as explained in Workbook 9) is the white cubes are spaced closer together and the black outlined cubes are spaced farther apart in relation to the center of the five Colorfield panels.
And here is the final Stereogram. I made a clone of the bitmap Stereogram image and applied a 20% Stained Glass transparency to make the pine branches darker and more saturated. The cubes were brought to the front. Experiment with Xara's various fills and create new Colorfield panels. And now that you know the basics, create your own depth images and Stereograms. But I have to warn you, Stereograms can be highly addictive. It is not unusual to start work on an image and find three or four hours have passed while you try "just one more thing"! Comments? Questions? Thought on the new Xara Xone 2003 design? Or New Year's greetings? Use the form on the next page to send me your comments. Gary W. Priester
