If you are not familiar with Fractal fills and Fractal transparencies, you will be by the time this tutorial is finished. Select the shape on the left with the Fill Tool. From the drop down list of Fill Types on the Infobar, select Fractal Plasma (it's the very last option in the list). Adjust the fill path arrows as shown above and use the 2 colors indicated. Click the Profile arrow icon on the Infobar to open the Profile dialog and adjust the sliders as shown. (Workbook 47 - Profiles explains in detail how Profiles work). Move the center shape to one side. It will be used later in the tutorial. (And if not, when the tutorial is over you can delete it. I frequently have extra shapes and objects that never get used so if there is something left over, it is probably my error not yours).
Using the Freehand and Brush Tool (F3) draw the 4 shapes shown above with the red outlines. (There is one shape that is not so obvious along the bottom). Select the large left shape and bring it to the front (Ctrl f). Hold down the Shift key (to select multiple objects), and click/select each of the 4 shapes. From the Arrange menu select Combine Shapes > Add Shapes or press Ctrl 1. The selected objects are combined into one shape and inherit the properties of the top most shape.
