The rope. Create a rectangle, the size is not important. Double click on a corner to curve the corners. Drag any of the inside control points (not the corner points) away from the corner to make the corners more curved.

Click twice with the Selector Tool (the arrow pointer) to enable rotate/skew mode. Drag the right middle double arrow control handle to skew the shape upwards a short distance.

Apply an Elliptical fill and adjust the center of the fill and the fill path arrows as shown. Use the two colors indicated.

Reduce the size to about 10 pixels wide.

Select the Freehand and Brush Tool (F3). Press Create Bush on the Infobar.

Name the new brush Rope and press OK. Draw a vertical line with the new brush.

Click the Edit Brush button. In the Rotation tabbed section, change the Brush Angle to 100. If you key in this amount, press Enter to apply the change. If you use the slider the change is automatic.

In the Spacing tabbed section, increase the Spacing slider distance until the rope looks like the example in the center above.

Reduce the line width of the rope brush on the Infobar to 6pix (key in 6pix in the Width text entry box and press Enter).

Copy the brush to the clipboard (Ctrl c).

Save your drawing and take a short break.
