Create a large circle and apply a 2-color Circular fill.
Apply a Circular transparency to the large circle. Select the large ellipse under the lantern and apply a Flat, 30%, Mix transparency. At this point I see several things I would like to change.
Change the fill colors for the top rectangle to black and dark blue. Change the center fill colors shown on the sides to the deeper orange and change the darker of the 2 Fractal Plasma fills to the deeper orange.
OK I made a bunch of last minute changes. I changed the colors again for the bottom rectangle and the top of the base and the base itself. The base wanted to be darker and the bottom rectangle needed more contrast in the colors. I applied a Circular, Mix transparency to the top rectangle with the center at 50% and the outside at 0. This added a little more diffusion and glow. Finally, I created a 200dpi, True Color Bitmap Copy. I edited the image in Xara Picture Editor and made these changes in the Enhance (Ctrl e) dialog: Brightness -20, Contrast +20, Color Saturation -25 and Blur/Sharpen -200. Finally I applied a Circular, Stained Glass transparency with the inside transparency amount 100% and the outside amount 0%. This concentrated the light and saturation in the center of the candle flame and darkened the image over all. It still needs a lot of work but if I keep playing with this image I'll be later than I already am. So I'll leave it here. Your feedback is appreciated.
