Copy the top of the two ellipses to the clipboard (Ctrl c). Select both ellipses and Add Shapes (Ctrl 1). Delete the middle control points to make the sides square. Paste the ellipse in place (Edit > Paste in Place or Shift Ctrl v). Clone the top ellipse and reduce the size to 210 x 16 pixels and move it a pixel or two towards the back.
Copy the smaller ellipse to the clipboard. Select the top 2 ellipses and Arrange > Join Shapes (results shown in blue green). Paste the smaller ellipse in place (pale green). Create a rectangle that is 175 pixels wide (the height will vary) and copy it to the clipboard. Position the rectangle so that it covers the top portion of the joined blue green wide O-shape. Select the O-shape and the rectangle and Combine Shapes > Subtract Shapes (Ctrl 2). Paste the rectangle in place and subtract the center portion of the light green ellipse. Paste another rectangle in place and delete the inside portion of the gray combined shape. Group all these elements (Ctrl g).
Move this group down so we can see the top tapered portion of the candle.
Create 3 new ellipses to the sizes shown above. Repeat the steps from the top of the page to create the shape shown on the bottom above. Group these new shapes. This will be the bottom band. Save your drawing and take a short break.
