Hold down the Shift key and click the Selector Tool (F2 - the arrow pointer) on the small circle and the rectangle. (You hold down the Shift key to select multiple objects). From the Arrange menu, select Combine Shapes > Add Shapes or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl 1. The 2 shapes become one combined shape. The circle merges into the rectangle.
Clone the circle shown above in red outline (Ctrl k). Clone vs. Duplicate: Clone (Ctrl k) makes a copy in the exact same position as the original. Duplicate (Ctrl d) makes a copy and offsets it down and to the right.
