ISSUE 22 •  February 15, 2001

In this issue:

You editor (that's me), is finding less and less to write about Xara X these days. Xara X has been released—for some time now, and that elusive disc has reached all corners of the globe (except for New Mexico, it would seem). The new Xara Conferences including the Xara X, Xara 3D and Xara Gallery conferences are now firmly entrenched on TalkGraphics.com. It seems that almost every hour, and at the least every day, one of the Xara X pioneers is coming up with some groundbreaking new directions or new techniques, pushing Xara X to the limits and beyond. If you haven't been there recently, check it out.

The Xara X Online Manual continues with this month's installment moving on from the tool bar to the Galleries. We'll look at the Color, Layers and Frames Galleries, and as a special bonus for new users, there will be a simple animation tutorial. And don't forget, every Xara tool is covered in exacting detail in the Help pull down menu. Relative to Xara's excellent context-sensitive Help, I was attempting to write an article about that drawing application from Corel and foolishly pressed the Help button in the menu about which I was writing, only to see the same page listed each time instead of Xara's helpful context-sensitive Help files. If you are not aware of these, as we look into the various galleries, press the Help button and you'll see only the information that applies to the specific gallery your are in.

Insider Information

The Featured Artist for February is Ivan Louette who has been astonishing everybody in the Xara X conference with his innovative custom brushes. In fact, Ivan not only provided the cool images for this month's Featured Artist Gallery, but he also provided two sets of cool, custom, free brushes and a set of nine of his favorite rose outlines in the form of free clip art. You'll find Ivan's brushes and clip art in the XaraXone Shareware Page.

The February Trompe L'Oeil Room partners Xara X and Flash to create a simple Flash animation (or movie as Flash calls it). This is a good beginner tutorial for learning the Flash basics. Flash is really not that hard once you learn the basics.

There is lots of cool new stuff in the Shareware Page with more being added all the time. And the list of links to sites with graphics produced with Xara keeps growing. If you have a site you've created with Xara, let your editor (yep, old you know who) know and we'll add your site to the list of sites in the Xara Links page.

And last but not least. Your editor is always looking for new talent to showcase in the XaraXone Featured Artist page. If you think you have the right stuff (10-12 really cool images—created with Xara, or created mostly with Xara), drop me a line and if possible send me an URL where I can see your images. The world is waiting to see your images. OK?
